Villa, Tanger
2007
Perched on a cliff overlooking Tangier and facing the Mediterranean, this villa expresses an architecture of clarity and depth. Completely redesigned, it opens onto the strait through expansive windows and wide terraces, where each frame celebrates the horizon and the light. The space unfolds as a succession of sequences, between interiority and landscape. The project seeks to reveal the strength of the site while creating fluid and refined living spaces. A majestic double-height hall leads to the central staircase — “a pleated ribbon” descending towards the sea, extending the house down to the shore. Large, discreet doors allow the volumes to be modulated: when open, they extend the perspectives; when closed, they create a more intimate atmosphere. The choice of materials establishes a sober and essential language, where every detail bears the Putman signature. This villa exemplifies the art of transforming a site into an architectural narrative. Between light and material, openness and withdrawal, it offers a sensitive experience where interior architecture engages in dialogue with the landscape. As Madame Andrée Putman summarized: “My spaces are simple, serene but not cold; refined but not opulent; gentle but not nostalgic; pure but not restrictive.”
