With Eclipse, Andrée Putman explores a design language rooted in minimalism and formal purity, where the half-moon becomes the organizing principle of both the object and its relationship to space.
This geometry, built upon a tension between presence and absence, structures the piece into a form that is at once legible and enigmatic. The curve sculpts the volume, establishing a subtle balance between solid and void.
This duality is reinforced through the contrast of materials: a body in mass-dyed black wood, dense and light-absorbing, is set against a sliding polished mirror-steel top, whose reflective surface introduces an almost immaterial dimension.
The movement of the sliding top goes beyond pure function to become an interactive gesture. This dynamic of revealing and concealing engages the user in an active relationship with the object, transforming its use into an experience.
At the boundary between design and sculpture, Eclipse proposes a sensitive approach in which material, light, and space exist in constant dialogue.
