With the Compas dans l’œil lamp, created in 1988, Andrée Putman develops a design language in which geometric precision and material refinement come together in a form that is both rigorous and sensitive.
Made of brushed stainless steel, the lamp asserts a restrained and controlled presence, grounded in the quality of its surface and the precision of its proportions. The lampshade, subtly perforated metal, filters the light and produces a delicate interplay of shadows and reflections.
The combination of silver and golden tones, enriched by a touch of brass, introduces a material vibration that goes beyond pure functionality. This blend gives the object a refined, almost precious dimension, while remaining within a measured and disciplined design language.
Between formal rigor and luminous subtlety, Compas dans l’œil proposes an approach to lighting design in which detail and materiality fully participate in the perceptual experience.
