With this chair, Andrée Putman develops a design language in which surface becomes structure and geometry becomes a true perceptual language.
Both the seat and the backrest are treated through faceted planes, following a logic reminiscent of a diamond cut. Each surface captures light and generates a visual vibration that animates the object without relying on ornament.
The seat, conceived as a perspective in itself, introduces a constructed sense of depth: the planes unfold through subtle angles, creating a controlled geometric tension. This tension dialogues with the softness of the curved backrest, which anchors the piece within a logic of comfort and bodily continuity.
Feminine in both its design and posture, the chair combines geometric precision with the suppleness of its lines. The small metallic glides, discreet yet decisive, punctuate the composition with luminous accents. They function as points of sparkle, extending at the scale of detail the principle of reflection embedded within the form itself.
Good to know
Designed in 2003 for the interior project of The Putman, a residential hotel conceived by Andrée Putman, this chair has since appeared in numerous projects and illustrates a recurring language within her work, where formal rigor is combined with a deeply sensitive experience.
