With Tête dans les nuages, Andrée Putman proposes a rigorous and almost abstract interpretation of the bar stool, conceived for restaurant interiors in which every element contributes to a coherent overall language.
The object is distinguished by its assertive geometry, reduced to its essential lines. The volumes, precise and controlled, compose a silhouette that is almost diagrammatic, where nothing appears incidental.
This rigor is emphasized by the presence of a stainless-steel bar, which both structures the piece and introduces an immediately legible function: the footrest. Linear and reflective, it acts like a line of light within the composition, revealing by contrast the density of the surrounding surfaces.
The title, seemingly at odds with this strict geometry, introduces a characteristic sense of displacement. Where the form feels grounded, stable, almost terrestrial, the evocation of “clouds” suggests elevation and mental lightness.
Good to know
Imagined in 1998 to accompany a series of Japanese restaurants, this project emerged during a period when the first sushi conveyor belts were appearing, introducing a new dining experience that was both fluid and contemporary.
