CAPC Museum of Contemporary Art, Bordeaux
1990
In 1990, the extension and transformation of the CAPC – Museum of Contemporary Art in Bordeaux, housed in the former Entrepôt Lainé, provided a solemn setting for contemporary art. Andrée Putman designed all the interior layouts and created the entire furniture collection, revealing the building’s monumentality and history while establishing an atmosphere of rigor, sobriety, and distinction. Every space, from the library to the mezzanine, was conceived to offer a unique aesthetic and sensory experience, where art and architecture respond to each other with elegance. Noble materials and subtle lighting create a sober and masterful framework, designed as a showcase for the artworks. From the library to the exhibition spaces, each volume unfolds in measured balance, where the monumentality of the site engages in dialogue with the precision of the fittings. Here, art and architecture meet in a relationship of elegance and resonance.
