The surfaces of the Ni vu ni connu mirror capture the gaze and multiply it, fragmenting the image into a shifting composition. Each angle offers a different perception, turning the mirror into a living object in constant transformation.
When closed, the piece reveals another reading: stainless steel, alternately brushed and polished, forms a subtle checkerboard pattern. The finishes play with light, contrasting matte and shine in an almost tactile graphic rhythm.
Open or closed, the triptych thus oscillates between transparency and opacity, between revelation and restraint. It embodies Andrée Putman’s distinctive design language, where rigorous geometry serves a sensitive experience shaped by reflections, rhythm, and nuance.
Good to know
Designed by Andrée Putman, the triptych mirror plays with reflection and fragmentation. Its brushed and polished stainless-steel surfaces create a subtle rhythm of light and material. Featured in numerous projects, it was notably integrated into the Palais du Congo apartment in Brussels (2008), where the cathedral-style living room and helical staircase interact with the monumentality of Art Deco architecture, embodying the union of rigorous geometry and sensory experience that defines Andrée Putman’s work.
