The Trois Carats et demi table plays on the contrast between brushed black oak and polished stainless-steel inserts that highlight the edges of its design. Its top rests on four faceted volumes, whose precise geometry gives the piece a strong sculptural presence. The alternation of materials creates a dialogue between the depth of the wood and the brilliance of the metal, enhancing the object’s visual impact. Created among the earliest works of Andrée Putman, this table already held an important place in her Paris loft as early as 1984, reflecting her particular attachment to this model. With its assertive volume and low height, it evokes the spirit of the 1970s while asserting itself as a piece with an almost architectural presence. Its faceted legs, reminiscent of precious stones, reveal an inspiration drawn from the world of jewelry, a recurring influence in the designer’s work. This sense of preciousness enters into tension with the dense materiality and deliberately massive silhouette of the table, creating a subtle balance between delicacy and power.
