Private residence, Brussel
2008
Located at the top of the Palais du Congo in Brussels, the apartment completed in 2008 spans three levels. The interior architecture explores relationships of scale and fluidity, playing with the monumentality of the Art Deco building and the intimacy of domestic spaces. At the heart of the project, a vast cathedral-like living room unfolds its dizzying height. The furniture, arranged in arcs and parallel lines, structures the space beneath the grand vault, while a spiral staircase rises like a sculpture, connecting the levels in an airy continuity. More than a reception room, this volume serves as a living stage where every area has its purpose: contemplation, reading, or social interaction. The apartment as a whole is organized as a succession of sequences, alternating between open, light-filled spaces and more intimate alcoves. The subtle layout transforms the constraints of the site into a narrative of balance, where monumental grandeur engages in dialogue with everyday use.
